how it works
On a Learn to Sail Holiday, we offer the chance for beginners to gain a level of qualification that suits them. It is aimed at novice sailors and depending on previous sailing experience, ability and progress throughout the week, we can offer the following levels, all totally achievable within a week with us.
For those looking to gain a recognised certificate, we offer the opportunity to get most of the theory course work out of the way before your holiday, so you can focus on the fun practical sailing skills.
LEVEL 1 Introduction to Yachting
- You need to register as a student below
- A fun certificate of achievement for basic sailing awareness
- No pre-holiday study or tests required
- 10 years or over
LEVEL 2 International Crew
- You need to register as a student below
- The minimum knowledge required to be a useful and active crew member on board and if necessary take charge of a small yacht in protected waters
- (NB: For flotillas and charters, many yacht companies (ourselves included) now require one guest aboard to have a valid Day Skipper or ICC and one other guest to have a valid crew certificate)
- No pre-holiday study or tests required
- 14 years or over
- 35€ for certificate paid locally in Greece
LEVEL 3 Flotilla Skipper / ICC – International Certificate of Competence
- For sailors who are keen to be able to handle the boat in most situations and make decisions afloat as the skipper
- Pre-holiday study on-line theory course required (a week of evening study) and then an online test to complete the course
- Includes the VHF module, ICC and Flotilla Skipper
- $140 USD paid directly to the IYT to obtain your ICC/VHF certificate and complete the on-line theory course
- A further multiple-choice test is required out in Greece – 135€ paid in cash locally in Greece

IMPORTANT NOTES
- It is expected at least one person on a Learn to Sail holiday (on each yacht) is required to take the Level 3 (ICC) to enable the free sailing part of the holiday
- Other crew members on board don’t have to take any certification if they don’t want to and can decide-out in Greece,
- Certificate fees and examinations are all taken and payment is made locally in Greece (135€ per ICC student, 35€ per crew certificate)
- ICC certificates only available to permanent residents of UK*
