Our fellow Trekkies,

Things are much closer to normal now and we’re pleased to say that we’ve had a brilliant summer out in Greece and have been extremely busy since July. It’s been very encouraging to have received so much positive feedback from all our guests and we’re incredibly proud of what our team and partners have achieved. Kefalonia remains very low risk and it’s clear that the appetite for travel, especially to this amazing island , is still very much there with record numbers of guests already re-booked for 2021 and new enquiries flooding in.

On arrival at Kefalonia airport

Kefalonia Airport

We’re very lucky as the airport is brand new this year. Loads of space, immaculately cleaned and very organised. There have been international arrivals since July 1st from all over Europe so all the systems and protocols have been tried and tested.

We have been advised there will be random testing for Covid-19 in place at the airport for arrivals from all countries. If you are tested this will take approximately 1hr. You are then free to travel to your designated beach club or yacht and await the results. (see Useful FAQ’s above)

The taxi transfers that you have booked independently or through our partner will operate as normal in accordance with the guidelines. As a family group of 4 (including children), we understand there are no restrictions in the same taxi, and those sharing a taxi a maximum of 3 adults and driver are permitted.

Further taxi advice can be found through our transfer partner here – Taxi Transfers

Car rental may also be a good option for you and very reasonable – Car Rental

Taking Responsibility

We expect all our guests to practice safe distancing and make their own judgement as to whether they are comfortable with certain activities and situations, before taking part.

Although we will monitor distancing rules it is your responsibility to ensure that you adhere and take all precautions to remain safe. You must understand the risks involved and that accidental contact / infringement of the distancing rules can happen at any time, even with the best of intent. The content of this plan is intended as a guide and will be implemented where possible. There may be further changes to align with changing local standards and laws.

Our Beach Clubs in Kefalonia

We’re very lucky that both our Beach Clubs are small, with spacious outdoor eating areas and lots of external space to find a quiet spot. Both clubs are family-run by lovely people who will do all they can for you, and they will ensure the safety measures are taken seriously – all with a smile.

Our beach club concept has always been more about independence and flexibility, so we are already well placed to deal with these regulations. We’ve never had kids clubs, big group events or quiz nights!

On arrival, you will be met by the team. No hugs and kisses though. Hand sanitiser will be readily available at the hotel entrance and all arrivals should sanitise on arrival. After check-in you will be shown to your room/villa. Regular washing of hands is expected of all guests.

The only other regulations are regarding practising social distancing and being respectful of policies put in place by the Hotel/Villa owners. Masks and gloves are not obliged to be worn by guests unless you are taking part in a group activity and in close proximity to instructor / other guests.

Personal hygiene is of utmost importance of course and regular use of hand sanitiser and washing of hands is essential.

Hotels and Villas

Lixouri Bay Beach Club Pool and View

Hotel staff

The integrated Health and Safety plan foresees all measures, specifications and procedures to address the new COVID-19 and any disease that can be transmitted in the community, in accordance to the World Health Organisation, the Greek Ministry of Health and local authorities.

All the hotel staff have been trained to be aware of COVID-19 symptoms and have been briefed on basic infection prevention and control (IPC) measures. Staff have also trained on actions to be taken in case of guests presenting COVID-19 compatible symptoms, or themselves presenting symptoms.

Hotel reception

The Hotel must keep a record of the persons residing in the accommodation – name, nationality, date of arrival and departure, contact details (address, telephone, e-mail) and that all visitors have been informed that a file is being kept for public health reasons.

Appropriate layout of reception to adhere to social distancing and reduce crowding.

Extension of check-in/out times to ensure that between different guests the room is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, and that adequate natural ventilation of the space follows. Check-in no earlier than 3pm and check out no later than 11am.

Hotel  housekeeping

Some additional non-essential items have been removed.

There will be enhanced cleaning and disinfection of the most frequently touched areas – light switches, door handles, TV remotes, bathrooms, thermostats etc. All rooms in the Hotels will be steam cleaned or fogged before new guests arrive.

Unless otherwise requested on arrival at reception, rooms will only be cleaned on changeover day and once mid-week – towels will also be replaced mid-week during your stay.

Villa / Beach Houses housekeeping

Some additional non-essential items have been removed.

There will be enhanced cleaning and disinfection of the most frequently touched areas – light switches, door handles, TV remotes, bathrooms, thermostats etc.

Owners will not enter the accommodation unless absolutely necessary i.e urgent maintenance reasons.

Extra sheets/towels will be left inside the property but there will be no mid-week clean/change.

Provisioning and lifts to the supermarket will only be available if pre-booked.

Hotel restaurant / bars

Table service will continue as usual with an appropriate layout to adhere to social distancing.

Buffet dining will still be available to our guests but with precautionary measures regarding hygiene and food safety such as keeping safe distances, changing utensils often, providing individually portioned food, etc. Buffets will be served by the hotel staff in a safe and sensible way.

Bars will be open but with an appropriate layout to adhere to social distancing. Table service will be encouraged. No music is permitted at the beach bar.

Restaurant / bar operating hours will remain the same and should the need arise hours will be extended to accommodate.

All additional safety measures which will be introduced must be followed by both guests and employees. These will be clearly indicated.

Outdoor areas

The outdoor pools and private beach areas are easily accessible allowing you to have plenty of space to enjoy your holiday while being safe and observing social distancing.

All the outdoor facilities (restaurants, beach, pools, bars, etc.) will be operational, and special hygiene measures will be applied.

Sun beds and umbrellas will be placed adhering to all safe distancing requirements which is not too different from previous years.

Swimming pools

The frequency of cleaning and disinfection of the pool areas will be increased and disinfectant products suitable for the current situation will be used.

There is a maximum number of guests allowed in the pool at any one time. We have looked at the numbers and it does not seem to be an issue – for example at Lixouri Bay Beach Club the total number is 15 guests – a normal amount for the size of the pool and previous years.

Water Sports

Paliki Dinghy Sailing

We will be offering our normal inclusive activities: dinghy sailing, windsurfing and paddle sports. A benefit of our beach activities is that they take place outside, and they are led by our conscientious team who will reduce group sizes and practice safe distancing.

Equipment cannot be shared by guests from different families at the same time,  i.e a mixed group on a catamaran or a mixed group on a giant paddleboard.

We are doing everything we can to minimise the hard surfaces you’ll need to touch whilst using the equipment and a regular cleaning regime will be in place (see below), but we can’t avoid touch altogether so we recommend you bring along and wear when required, a pair of suitable gloves.

Large group activities such as beach volley are not permitted and guests are obliged to wear a mask if social distancing cannot be adhered to.

Regular washing of hands and social distancing is expected of all guests.

Social distance 1.5m

Water sports staff

Staff temperatures will be taken and logged each morning.

Staff will wash hands and use hand sanitiser at every opportunity and in-between activities.

Staff must wear a face-covering / gloves if they cannot maintain social distancing with guests on and off the water (compulsory during group tuition sessions).

Water sports equipment cleaning

All frequently touched equipment such as paddles, windsurf booms and tillers will be washed with soapy water between each use. Buckets of soapy water and sponges will be located along the waterline – please help us to complete the above after your session if you can.

All equipment will be washed thoroughly with soapy water as much as possible.

At busy times there may be a delay in turning kit around.

Buoyancy aids / harness’s will be disinfected in the dunk bin after each use

Water sports tuition

We will be offering our FREE group tuition sessions daily, but we will limit the size of the group to about 9 persons.

We will maintain social distancing and staff will be required to wear a face-covering during these sessions. Guests are also obliged to wear a face mask during these group activities.

1 – 1 tuition will only take place from another craft such as a support boat.

Our Yachts in Kefalonia

Yachts are probably the best place to self-isolate in Greece. Our enhanced cleaning protocols and procedures will ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday.

On arrival

On arrival at the yacht base, you will be met by the team. No hugs and kisses though. Our team will be wearing face coverings.

Hand sanitiser will be readily available and all arrivals should sanitise their hands on arrival.

The lead party member (usually skipper) will be shown to the yacht when it’s ready and must wear a face mask. Only this one person will board the yacht for the briefing. Other members of your party will need to wait in the shade while this takes place (approx 20 minutes). You can of course film the briefing to show the rest of the group later.

Due to the extra work now involved in turnaround your yacht may not always be ready at 3pm.  Please bear with us.

Yachts in Kalamos

Yacht Staff

Staff temperatures will be taken and logged each morning.

Staff will wash hands and use hand sanitiser at every opportunity and in-between activities.

Staff must wear a face-covering / gloves if they cannot maintain social distancing (1.5m) with guests both on and off the water.

Cleaning and Yacht Preparation

We have always cleaned our yachts very thoroughly on each turnaround, and of course, this will continue to happen but with enhanced protocols and certified cleaning products.

In addition, each boat will be disinfected after it’s been cleaned and worked on, then finally sealed with access tape ready for the new arrivals.

Laundry will be prepared well in advance and sealed in individual bags and placed onboard the yacht. We are not allowed to make up beds for you.

Plates, cups, glasses and cutlery will be cleaned and replaced in a sealed bag.

Please practice social distancing whilst on the quay and minimise contact with our staff and other guests as much as possible.

There will be hand sanitiser on all yachts.

Due to the extra procedures we have to go through in preparation of the yachts, please allow us the extra time to do so. We do not envisage any dramatic delays.

Shared shore-based showers/kitchen areas are not to be used.

COVID-19 equipment on board the yacht

Masks, snorkels and flippers will not be available.

In accordance with the Greek regulations, we have to put the following additional equipment on board in a sealed container:

– Fingertip pulse oximeter,  1 x protective suit,  1 x shoe cover, Hand sanitising wipes (1 pack),  4 x gloves, 2 x sterile bags, masks for the number of berths on board, 100ml hand sanitising gel.

Please do not open this sealed container unless you have a suspected case of Covid-19 and spoken to our team first. If it is opened we need to replace it.

Onboard will also be an infrared thermometer with spare batteries (see next section).

In the chart table will be a COVID-19 folder. In this folder will be the following:

– The Greek law/regulations concerning COVID-19 regulations we are complying with.

– Instructions on procedures to follow if you have a suspected case of COVID-19.

– Emergency contact details of all Port Police authorities in the Ionian.

– Declaration forms for all guests onboard, with personal details and medical history.

– Guests health log (see next section).

Whilst out sailing – requirements for clients to adhere to

Each morning before departing your mooring, the skipper must take all crew’s temperatures using the supplied infrared thermometer and record the temperatures in the daily log provided. This must be available for inspection by any Port Police and there is a fine of Euros 50 for each failure to do so, payable on the spot.

We discourage hopping on board each other’s yachts, even when moored on the quay.

The only other regulations are regarding practising social distancing when ashore and being respectful of policies put in place by the taverna and shop owners. Masks and gloves are not obliged to be worn.

Personal hygiene is of utmost importance of course and regular use of hand sanitiser and washing of hands is important.

Dis-embarkation

Regulations dictate that guests pack up their dirty laundry, plates, cups, glasses and utensils and remove from the boat and place on the quayside in the bags provided.

Please work with us on this so we can get the turnaround done in a timely manner.
