Kefalonia's West Coast Flotilla Holiday (June 2020)
An amazing opportunity to explore the dramatic west coast of Kefalonia on a Flotilla Sailing week.
Set sail from Lixouri to Agia Efimia on a 7-night flotilla, stopping off en-route at Atheras, Assos and plenty of other great places along the way. Our brilliant support team will be with you for the duration of the trip. We’ll mix it up a bit with nights on anchor in secluded bays and quaint little fishing harbours.
The Western Kefalonia Route
Day 1: Lixouri to Atheras
We kick off the weeks sailing holiday and head out of the fantastic Gulf of Argostoli and round the Western peninsular of Paliki. There’s generally a nice breeze along this western coast of Kefalonia and we should make good progress past the spectacular Kipouria monastery and steer North towards our sheltered anchorage for the night – Porto Atheras.
Porto Atheras is a stunning little harbour, steeped in history and reputed to be Odysseus’ first port of call on his homecoming to the Ionian. We’ll spend our first night here on anchor in this sheltered Kefalonian bay. Great for swimming and with the option of a couple of superb tavernas only a short row in a tender from the yachts.
Day 2: Atheras to Assos
This is a relatively short hop across Kolpos Mirtou passing the stunning Myrtos beach featured in the film Captain Correlis Mandolin. If there is a good sailing breeze, and time in the day, we’ll stop to enjoy this pristine white beach, that is rated as one of the best beaches in Kefalonia. After that, it’s only a few miles further North and around the headland to the entrance of the unique Venetian harbour of Assos that sits below a ruined hilltop castle which is great to explore on foot.
We’ll endeavour to get the yachts stern-to on the small quay and take the time to enjoy this wonderful harbour and its many tavernas!
Day 3: Assos to Vassiliki
Today we head further North and sail past the most Northerly tip of Kefalonia towards the Ionian island of Lefkas; Vassiliki is our destination. This port and neighbouring bay are well renowned for their brisk winds and great watersports. Lefkas features as one of the regular stops on our Flotilla holidays, so our staff will be happy to recommend things to do once you arrive into the harbour.
Day 4: Vassiliki to Fiscardo
Today there’s a short hop back to Kefalonia, sailing to the northern town of Fiscardo. Packed in the busy summer months of July and August Fiscardo is the Antibes of the Ionian. Superyachts, super rich and super cool it’s the harbour for the whose who of Kefalonia. Only a short walk out of the harbour takes you to some really lovely beaches and there’s plenty to see in and around the town and some really nice restaurants for dinner too.
Day 5: Fiscardo to Agia Efimia
Sailing down Kefalonia’s North-East coast we arrive at the home of our Flotilla Sailing base, where are yachts will spend their summer. Agia Efirmia is a great port with plenty going on. Heading out of town, you can walk along the seafront taking in the views of Ithaca.
Day 6: Agia Efimia
Today you can explore around Agia Efirmia and the wider area, or else set off for a day sail. Sami (the second stop of our Flotilla Holidays) is a great option for a short day trip. There is a fab little bakery on the waterfront. If you fancy a walk as well, you can hike up the donkey trail to the ruined citadel, where you’ll be rewarded with some knock out views!
(Please note that the final route may differ slightly, depending on wind forecasts and conditions)
